Providers are listed here for educational purposes only. It is the responsibility of the parent to ensure the provider they choose accepts their specific insurance, any out-of-pocket costs, and to vett providers.

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO, Blue cross blue shield PPO, and Cigna PPO

Through lactation Network most of these providers accept this insurance. Prior to a consult lactation network requires you to verify your insurance. Most of these insurances allow 6 covered in-home, office, or virtual visits.  Some providers require a travel fee for home visits.

Tricare Prime & select

Tricare typically covers 6 lactation consultations. Some providers provide home visits with a travel fee that
is not covered by insurance.

UCSD Managed Care HMO

UCSD Managed care HMO typically allows two visits with pre-authorization. More visits may be requested.

Medi-cal

Clients with Medical plans typically receive support through their pediatrician or location of birth. Click here for providers with a reduced rate and organizations that fund lactation consults through grants.

AETNA PPO & HMO

Aetna PPO typically covers 6 lactation consults. Clients with Aetna HMO may be able to see providers with preauthorization. Please contact your insurance to see if this is an option for you.

Other ways to pay (Cash Pay, FSA, & HSA) and reimbursement

All lactation consultants take cash pay. Rates are variable as is travel fees.

United Health Care PPO

There is only one out-patient lactation consultant that accept united health care. 

Kaiser

Families with Kaiser can only receive insurance covered lactation support through the Kaiser network. Please, see Cash pay and alternative financial options for more options. 

HMO plans 

Most HMO plans only cover lactation services at the families place of birth ot through their pediatrician office if the office has an IBCLC on staff. Please learn about your options below. 

BIPOC (black, indigenous, persons of color), LGBTIA+, and people with low income

If you are a member of any of these communities you may qualify for grant covered lactation support.
